Questions
What is an IFSC?
An alpha-numeric code that uniquely identifies a bank branch taking part in NEFT. RBI describes it as an 11-character code: the first four letters represent the bank, the fifth character is 0 (zero) and the last six represent the branch.
What is a MICR code?
The nine-digit sort code printed in the MICR band at the bottom of a cheque, after the six-digit cheque number. RBI’s guidelines say it is unique for any bank branch in the country: three digits for the city, three for the bank and three for the branch.
Where does this list come from?
From RBI’s lists of bank branches taking part in NEFT and RTGS, as published in Razorpay’s IFSC dataset (public domain). We clean the place names and show the release date on every page; banks open, merge and close branches, so confirm a code on a cheque before sending money.
From RBI’s list of bank branches taking part in NEFT and RTGS, as published in Razorpay’s IFSC dataset (public domain), release v2.0.62 of 1 September 2026: 1,82,824 branches. Banks open, merge and close branches, so confirm the code on a cheque or with the branch before sending money.
